Park Ridge, IL — In recognition of his outstanding leadership in reducing workplace hazards through design methods, Bruce Lyon is the recipient of the 2025 Prevention through Design Award.
The recognition is presented by NIOSH, the National Safety Council and the American Industrial Hygiene Association, in partnership with the American Society of Safety Professionals.
Prevention through Design, or PtD, seeks to protect workers by limiting risks and reducing hazards as soon as possible during the work process – specifically in the design phase. The annual PtD Award recognizes individuals, teams, businesses and other organizations that have eliminated or reduced hazards through design or redesign efforts – or have contributed to the body of knowledge that enables PtD solutions.
Lyon is vice president and director of risk management services for Brown & Brown Inc., a commercial insurance brokerage firm. He’s worked with national and global organizations across various industries, specializing in safety management systems, ergonomics and regulatory compliance.
Lyon serves as chair and vice chair for ANSI/ASSP risk management and PtD committees and previously was an advisor on ISO 31000 standards. An adjunct professor and advisory board chair at the University of Central Missouri, he has authored numerous articles and books and also shares his expertise through webinars, podcasts, speaking engagements and training courses.
