Age, sex are predictors of crash types: study

Ann Arbor, MI – A person’s age and sex can predict what type of motor vehicle crash he or she will most likely be involved in, according to a new study published online in the Journal of Adolescent Health by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.

Silver Spring, MD – The Food and Drug Administration on April 18 released an advisory on unintentional exposure to patches containing fentanyl, a painkiller used to manage long-term conditions. Large doses of fentanyl can cause serious side effects or death among vulnerable populations such as children, according to FDA.

Washington – In 2010, 4,690 workers died on the job in the United States, according to final data released April 25 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on April 18 published a final rule that requires interstate truck and bus driver medical examiners to be trained, tested and certified on the physical qualifications of commercial motor vehicle drivers.

San Antonio – Within the first six months of returning from deployment, military personnel experience a 13 percent increase in at-fault vehicle incidents, according to a report from USAA, an insurer for military members and their families.

Permanent brain injuries among youth football players highest in 25 years: study

Chapel Hill, NC – Four fatalities and 14 permanent head or brain injuries occurred among U.S. high school and grade school-level football players in 2011, according to an annual survey conducted by the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research at the University of North Carolina.
