Washington – Mexico will soon lift retaliatory tariffs on more than $2 billion in U.S. manufactured goods and agricultural products, Department of Transportation officials said July 6.

FAA issues more than $1 million civil penalty against Boeing

Seattle – The Federal Aviation Administration on June 27 proposed a $1 million civil penalty against Boeing Co. for allegedly failing to correct a known problem with the central passenger oxygen system in its B-777 airliners.

FMCSA seeks public comment on strategic plan draft

Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is accepting comment until July 29 on a draft strategic plan intended to serve as a guide to reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large commercial trucks and interstate buses.

CDC: Colorectal cancer rate decreases as screening increases

Atlanta – The rate of colorectal cancer could be significantly reduced if more people were screened for the disease, according to a report released July 5 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CPSC designates drawstrings as substantial safety hazard

Washington – A new federal safety rule issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission designates drawstrings on children’s coats, sweatshirts and other outerwear as substantial product safety hazards. This designation will strengthen CPSC’s authority to regulate drawstrings.

OSHA warns of hazards associated with scissor lifts

Washington – OSHA on July 6 issued a hazard alert on the dangers of using portable hydraulic scissor lifts to film events and functions.

Washington – OSHA has scheduled two informal stakeholder meetings on occupational exposure to infectious diseases for later this month.
