A new federal OSHA office has opened in Nevada in response to deficiencies in the state’s occupational safety and health program.
Located in Las Vegas, the new office will provide direct federal oversight and technical assistance for the state, and will work to improve coordination, according to OSHA administrator David Michaels.
A report (.pdf file) released last year found significant problems in how Nevada’s state-run OSHA program was operating. Numerous high-profile worker deaths — many in the midst of a construction boom on the Las Vegas Strip — and subsequent media attention prompted the report.
