Third combustible dust-related incident shuts down Tennessee manufacturing plant

Nashville, TN – A Tennessee manufacturing plant has suspended production following the deaths of two workers in the facility’s third combustible dust-related incident in four months.

NIOSH: Construction industry suffers most TBI deaths

San Diego – The construction industry had the highest number of traumatic brain injuries from 2003 to 2008, according to a study from NIOSH.

Hoeganaes serves as potent reminder

For the third time in about four months, a combustible dust-related incident at the same Tennessee facility has led to tragedy. Two people died in a May 27 hydrogen gas leak explosion at the Hoeganaes Corp. plant in Gallatin, TN, according to the Chemical Safety Board.

Surfers could benefit from safety education: survey

Lismore, Australia – One out of every 3 surfers suffers at least one surfing-related injury a year, according to a survey released June 3 by Australia’s Southern Cross University.

Child heat stroke deaths from being left in vehicle reach 500

Washington – On May 31, a 3-year-old boy from New Orleans became the 500th child to succumb to heat stroke after being left alone in a motor vehicle, according to Safe Kids USA. The number of children to die in this manner averages 38 per year and is trending upward, the organization said.
