We’re pleased to introduce a new quarterly column: “NSC Thought Leadership.” To kick things off, John Dony, the council’s vice president of workplace strategy, explains how a partnership with United Kingdom-based nonprofit Lloyd’s Register Foundation has resulted in the proposal of “a model for the ‘new value of safety.’”

In this issue, we present expanded coverage of OSHA’s “Top 10” most cited standards for fiscal year 2023. In addition to the overall Top 10, you’ll find lists for willful and serious violations, OSHA regions and – new for us – a list of which industries have the most citations.

Are you familiar with NSC Divisions? They’re industry- and interest-specific groups of NSC member employees “organized to provide those with similar safety interests the ability to connect with others” and “add their voice to advance safety for all workers.”

This month in Safety+Health, we’re publishing the results of our 2023 Training Survey. Created in response to National Safety Council members asking NSC Library Manager Alaina Kolosh for data on training expenditures, the survey is now in its eighth year.

Sometimes you meet someone and you immediately know they’re a good person. Patrick was a good friend to Safety+Health, and a great champion of safety. We know his work helped save lives. We hope the rest of the safety community knows it, too.
