OSHA releases Latino worker summit agenda
OSHA this week released a draft agenda (.pdf file) for its National Action Summit for Latino Worker Health and Safety.
OSHA administrator David Michaels and NIOSH Director John Howard will kick off the two-day event in Houston at 1 p.m. on April 14, and Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis will deliver the keynote address.
Three workshop groups will take place -- one on April 14 and two on April 15 -- featuring 10 workshops, each tentatively scheduled to be offered twice. Topics covered in the workshops include off-the-job programs, worker rights, and effective safety and health programs for Latino workers.
Michaels will close out the event the afternoon of April 15.
OSHA said the summit's goal is to spotlight hazards and challenges faced by Latino immigrant workers, who comprise nearly one-quarter of the construction industry workforce and suffer the highest rate of construction-related deaths.
