    OSHA launches heat illness prevention campaign

    AppWashington – Noting how easily heat stress can turn into heat stroke and even death, OSHA administrator David Michaels announced the kick-off of the agency’s second annual heat illness prevention campaign.

    The 2012 campaign aims to expand on last year’s campaign by providing more education materials and reaching more workers, Michaels said during a May 7 press conference. Last year, the campaign provided about 2 million workers and employers with materials and training resources.

    New to this year’s campaign are a smartphone application and an employer guide to using the heat index.

    “Our message for excessive heat days … is very simple: water, rest and shade,” Michaels said. “These three words can make a big difference for workers throughout the hot summer months.”
