Soft-edge, spring-free trampoline design reduces injuries: study

Sydney, Australia – Using trampolines with soft-edge, spring-free design can help reduce trampoline-related injuries by 30 to 80 percent, according to a study from the University of Technology, Sydney.

As part of the study, researchers analyzed data from phone interviews and email surveys with about 3,817 participants who own a “non-traditional” trampoline designed with soft edges and no springs. This information was compared to traditional trampoline injury data gathered from emergency departments in the United States and Australia.

Researchers found that soft-edge, spring-free trampoline designs can help reduce the magnitude and severity of more severe trampoline-related injuries, compared to traditional trampolines designed with padding and netting enclosures, according to a UTS press release.

The study was published in the July issue of the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health.
