New Orleans – NIOSH and the National Hearing Conservation Association have honored two companies for their efforts to prevent work-related noise-induced hearing loss.

The Safe-in-Sound Excellence in Hearing Loss Prevention Award was presented to United Technologies Corp. and the employees of MeadWestvaco Corp.’s Mahrt Mill during the 40th Annual Hearing Conservation Conference in New Orleans on Feb. 20.

“We know that noise-induced hearing loss can affect workers in any sector of the economy and that it has a significant impact on the individual, their family and our nation’s economy,” NIOSH Director John Howard said in a press release. “We are honored to once again have this opportunity to recognize organizations that are leading the way in preventing work-related hearing loss and keeping workers safe and healthy.”
