NSC supports NHTSA guidance on automated driving systems
On Sept. 12, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released Automated Driving Systems (ADS): A Vision for Safety 2.0. The guidance “calls for industry, state and local governments, safety and mobility advocates and the public to lay the path for the deployment of automated vehicles and technologies.”
In a statement issued Sept. 12, National Safety Council President and CEO Deborah A.P. Hersman applauded the release of the guidance. “The most compelling reason to encourage the rapid deployment of these technologies is to reverse the staggering death toll on our roadways,” Hersman said. “ADAS systems are already saving lives. Just think of the additional fatalities we could prevent with the deployment of even higher levels of automation.”
