NSC, NIOSH renew partnership

Itasca, IL — The National Safety Council and NIOSH on Sept. 12 renewed their alliance to help save lives and prevent workplace illnesses and injuries.

NSC and NIOSH will continue to collaborate on research, occupational safety and health events, and education, among other initiatives.

“Every worker deserves to come home safely at the end of each day,” NSC President and CEO Deborah A.P. Hersman said in a press release. “NIOSH is the ideal partner to help us meet this critical challenge head-on. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and making our workplaces measurably safer.”

The organizations have collaborated on various research and public awareness endeavors in the past five years, including those involving traffic safety and substance misuse.

“Worker safety is more pertinent than ever as unintentional injuries and fatalities continue to increase, which adversely affects workers and their families,” NIOSH Director John Howard said in the release. “We look forward to continuing an active relationship with NSC, reinforcing prevention as key to health and safety, and disseminating the many scientifically based resources and recommendations available to workers and employers.”
