FMCSA launches bus safety inspection strike force

Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced on Aug. 26 the launch of a nationwide motorcoach safety inspection strike force.

Over the next two weeks, the strike force – composed of traffic enforcement and federal safety investigators – will conduct surprise roadside bus inspections and safety visits to new motorcoach operators. Inspectors will focus on vehicle maintenance compliance issues such as brake, tire and exhaust system conditions; carrier compliance with verifying driver qualifications; and driver compliance with hours-of-service requirements.

The effort is part of FMCSA’s ongoing Motorcoach Safety Initiative.

Consumers can download a free mobile app to review bus companies’ safety records before booking a trip, and consumers and bus carrier employees can visit FMCSA’s safety complaint website to report any unsafe bus conditions or drivers.
