Heaters, portable generators and other related products have sparked an increasing number of carbon monoxide-related deaths, according to a new report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Cleveland — The Portable Generator Manufacturers’ Association is seeking stakeholder comment on proposed revisions to the ANSI/PGMA G300 standard on safety and performance of the units.

Portable generators can be found in many workplaces. Among the risks users face, according to OSHA, are shocks and electrocution from improper use of power or unintentionally energizing other electrical systems, and fires from improperly refueling the generator or not storing fuel correctly.

Washington — OSHA is reminding employers to take precautions to protect workers from the potentially fatal effects of carbon monoxide exposure during the operation of portable generators and other equipment in enclosed spaces.
