Editor's Note: Looking for CEOs who 'get it'
A recent Safety+Health poll question asked safety pros if they believe the current presidential administration’s push for deregulation will affect job security in the EHS field.
Several respondents shared a similar belief: Employers who care about worker safety and health will continue to do so regardless of whether regulations are in place.
To quote one respondent: “If the company puts value in a robust and effective safety program, then the job security is built in. If, however, the company has a safety department in order to keep OSHA at bay, there is no security no matter what the government push is.”

Employers who value “a robust and effective safety program” are exactly the type of leaders the National Safety Council wants to spotlight. Approaching its 16th year, CEOs Who “Get It” recognizes leaders whose actions demonstrate a personal commitment to creating and sustaining a culture of safety and health.
Submissions for the 2018 CEOs Who “Get It” are due by July 31. The selection process will conclude in late fall, and a Q&A with each of the selected CEOs will be published in the February 2018 issue of S+H. As I mentioned in a previous column, NSC welcomes the opportunity to include more diversity among the CEOs who are recognized, and encourages safety pros whose leaders are women and minorities to submit their names for consideration.
