Editor’s Note: Will you be part of it?
When I started at the National Safety Council, I had just left a magazine that, like Safety+Health, reported heavily on legislation. So, hearing frequent talk about “congress,” but no mention of lawmakers or bills, was a bit of a head-scratcher during my first couple of days at NSC. However, I quickly learned that when anyone at the council speaks of congress, the majority of the time they’re referring to the annual NSC Safety Congress & Expo.
The event is the council’s largest, and it touches virtually every department and colleague in some way. People are extra busy in the months leading up to it, and I admit with some guilt (but not much) that a time or two I’ve used that to put off meetings I didn’t want to attend by saying, “Let’s wait until congress is over.”
After I attended my first Safety Congress & Expo, I understood why it looms so large within NSC. The event’s size and energy were like nothing I’d ever experienced at a trade show. And I’ve continued to feel that energy at each successive show. The opportunity to be with thousands of people who care about safety and who have come to learn, share and network reaffirms my commitment to S+H.
A large part of this month’s coverage is dedicated to highlighting the speakers, educational sessions and special events of the upcoming Safety Congress & Expo – set to take place Sept. 16-22 in San Diego. I hope you can be part of it! The S+H team will be at the NSC booth, and we’d love for you to stop by and say hello.
