FMCSA announces listening session for entry-level training reqs

Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is scheduled to host a listening session (.pdf file) on commercial motor vehicle entry-level training requirements. The session is slated to take place Jan. 7 during the annual American Bus Association Marketplace conference in Charlotte, NC.

The surface transportation funding bill known as MAP-21 (.pdf file), which was signed into law July 6, includes a provision requiring FMCSA to establish minimum entry-level training requirements for CMV drivers.

FMCSA is encouraging participants to identify whether any feedback they provide is supported by research and cost-benefit analysis data. Participants can comment in person during the listening session; non-participants can submit comments by searching for Docket No. FMCSA-2007-27748 at www.regulations.gov. The listening session also will be available via webcast, with link information to be posted to the FMCSA website prior to the event.
