ILO issues booklet on emerging workplace risks
One day prior to World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the International Labour Organization released a booklet on emerging workplace hazards and new approaches to prevention (.pdf file).
The publication, issued April 27, discusses numerous safety and health issues, including those related to technical innovations such as nanotechnology and biotechnology. It also notes an increase in stress disorders stemming from difficulties "coping with the changing patterns of working life," according to an ILO press release.
ILO recently adopted a new list of occupational diseases, which for the first time includes mental, behavioral and post-traumatic stress disorders. In March, the organization approved an action plan (.pdf file) for improving occupational safety and health globally.
