NHTSA releases report on 2009 motorcycle helmet use
Use of Department of Transportation-compliant motorcycle helmets increased in 2009, according to a report (.pdf file) released in late December.
The report states that DOT-compliant helmet use increased to 67 percent in 2009 from 63 percent in 2008. Use has increased steadily over the past five years; in 2005, it was reported at 48 percent.
The report is based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's National Occupant Protection Use Survey.
