NTSB updates 'Most Wanted' list
Rail, aviation and marine issues have been added to the National Transportation Safety Board's Most Wanted list (.pdf file) of transportation safety improvements, released Feb. 18.
Ten of the 13 issues on the color-coded list have been given a red "unacceptable response" designation by the agency, while new issues include:
- Improve transit railcar design
- Require safety management systems for domestic vessels
- Improve oversight of pilot proficiency
Issues removed from the list include improved protection for school bus passengers and fatigue in the pipeline industry. In April 2009, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a final rule (.pdf file) that increased seatback height and established performance specifications for voluntary installment of safety belts for school buses.
