PHMSA to collect contract worker drug, alcohol test data
Contractors hired by pipeline operators must submit to annual drug and alcohol testing, according to a regulation recently issued by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
According to a notice (.pdf file) published in the Jan. 19 Federal Register, PHMSA will reinstate the collection of drug and alcohol testing data beginning with the 2009 calendar reporting year. "Submissions will be conducted under the auspices and approval of each operator for whom they performed a covered function," according to PHMSA officials. The data must be submitted on the Management Information System form by March 15.
