Safety+Health, OSHA announce ‘Top 10’ violations of 2011

Philadelphia – OSHA’s Fall Protection Standard (1926.501) was the agency’s most frequently cited standard in fiscal year 2011, OSHA and Safety+Health magazine announced Nov. 1 at the NSC 2011 Congress & Expo.

Patrick Kapust, deputy director of enforcement programs at OSHA, presented the Top 10 most frequently cited standards before a crowded group of spectators on the Expo Floor:

  1. Fall Protection (1926.501) – 7,139
  2. Scaffolding (1926.451) – 7,069
  3. Hazard Communication (1910.1200) – 6,538
  4. Respiratory Protection (1910.134) – 3,944
  5. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147) – 3,639
  6. Electrical – Wiring Methods (1910.305) – 3,584
  7. Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178) – 3,432
  8. Ladders (1926.1053) – 3,244
  9. Electrical – General Requirements (1910.303) – 2,863
  10. Machine Guarding (1910.212) – 2,728

“A lot of these hazards have been around a long time and are easily preventable,” Kapust said during the presentation.
