University offers 'first-of-its-kind' safety program

A new graduate-level safety program focusing on best practices to prevent catastrophic disasters now is available at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's School of Engineering.

Touting it as a "first-of-its-kind" program, the school is offering Advanced Safety Engineering and Management as a track in its Master of Engineering program. Only available online, the program will feature a curriculum focused on prevention through design to prevent "expansive disasters," such as the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion, according to a UAB press release.

Enrollment opened June 19.
