NSC announces new diversity safety recognition, scholarship program

DEI-Champion-2022

Itasca, IL — To further advance its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the National Safety Council has created a DEI safety champion recognition for organizations and a diversity in safety scholarship program for individuals.

The NSC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Safety Champion Recognition will honor organizations that strive to ensure physical safety as well as foster an environment in which every worker feels secure, welcome and included. Nominees will be judged on three criteria: culture, people and program innovations.

Aimed at increasing diversity in the occupational safety and health field, the Diversity in Safety Scholarship Program will award an annual, renewable scholarship payment of $5,000 to people of color seeking post-secondary education leading to a career in environmental, health and safety.

The deadline to apply for each is June 1. The recipients are expected to be announced in September.

“NSC is committed to deepening our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion in a holistic fashion,” NSC President and CEO Lorraine M. Martin said. “These new efforts represent another step in our journey to strengthen our DEI efforts both inside our organization and in the way we serve our mission.”
