Exelon Nuclear receives 2010 Green Cross for Safety Medal
Next month I have the honor of presenting the 2010 Green Cross for Safety Medal to Exelon Nuclear. The medal recognizes the organization’s outstanding safety achievements in workplace and off-the-job safety, community safety and responsible citizenship. Exelon Nuclear operates the third largest nuclear fleet in the world and delivers power to more than 17 million homes in the United States.
The company has a reputation in its industry as a safety leader and prides itself on operating clean, safe and reliable energy plants. Each plant includes environmental monitoring programs to keep its 8,500 nuclear professionals, the public and the environment safe. Selecting a recipient for the Green Cross for Safety Medal is an intense process. The National Safety Council conducts an extensive review of a company’s safety record and measures it against various benchmarks to assess the level of achievement. Applicants also undergo an extensive judging process by NSC staff and trustees.
Exelon Nuclear now joins an outstanding group of Green Cross for Safety Medal recipients that demonstrate safety excellence. Past recipients include FirstGroup, Delta Air Lines, UPS, DuPont, Liberty Mutual Group, Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler, Kenny Construction Co., Ryder Systems Inc., Intel Corp. and AK Steel Corp.
