Association offers guidelines for recording hearing loss
Westminster, CO – The National Hearing Conservation Association on July 15 issued guidelines (.pdf file) for recording occupational hearing loss on OSHA 300 logs.
Under OSHA recordkeeping regulations (1904.10), employers are required to record documented hearing loss in the form of “standard threshold shifts” on the OSHA 300 log.
NHCA advises audiologists and professional reviewers to consider the following when making that determination:
- OSHA policies and legal determinations that a qualifying hearing loss must be recorded if it is more likely than not that any part of the loss is work-related
- Noise measurements, including work area and personal dosimetry measurements to determine the worker’s time-weighted average exposure level
- Audiometric configuration – describing configurations consistent with non-work-related causes
- Non-occupational exposure and medical history
